About the Project:
White Boots Country Music Festival celebrates the contributions of female country musicians by creating a festival by women, for women. It distinctly appeals to a niche demographic of the American South.
Approach:
For this project, we were asked to design an array of visuals and branding elements for a music festival of our creation. It can be helpful to chose a topic that you enjoy which for me in this case, was country music. However, when I began to research country music festivals I found a gap in the market in that there are no female-only festivals in this genre. Consequently, I decided to build my festival design around this idea and focused on elements that would appeal specifically to a female audience. If you have never lived in the American South then perhaps you have never witnessed the phenomenon of women attending country music festivals in knee-high white cowboy boots. Hundreds of them. So then, why wouldn’t I use this distinctly feminine and country element to be the focus of my festival? From there I was able to build off the supporting ideas of the stitching from boots to create a cohesive visual system. Although it’s not just one graphic element used, it all fits together to appeal to the target audience. This system was then applied to typical festival items such as posters, t-shirts, bandannas, wristbands, etc.
